Moderate consumption of alcoholic beverages beneficial for patients with Coronary Artery Disease
Moderate consumption of alcoholic beverages has been associated with cardiovascular protection. Few studies, however, evaluated the relationship between alcohol consumption and severity of coronary artery disease. A group of Brazilian and Spanish researchers carried out a cross-sectional study with patients undergoing coronary angiography.
It was shown that moderate consumption of alcoholic beverages (here moderate was defined as less than 15 g of ethanol/day for women and less than 30 g of ethanol/day for men) was related to a lower coronary artery disease severity than alcohol abstinence or heavy drinking.
