Cancer
Cancer is a term used for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues. Cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems.
Cancer is not just one disease but many diseases. There are more than 100 different types of cancer. Most cancers are named for the organ or type of cell in which they start. It is a multi-factorial disease. Studies suggest that lifestyle choices can influence cancer risk. Accordingly, the consumption of alcoholic beverages cannot be accurately evaluated in isolation from other risk factors. For example, when the risk from alcoholic beverages, particularly wine, is assessed within the context of a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, the results seem to be quite different.
Indeed, the balance between genetic predisposition and environmental factors, including nutritional components and lifestyle behaviours, determines individual susceptibility to develop cancer.
