Eating patterns
Scientific research has proven that the Mediterranean diet (MD) is associated with a higher life expectancy and a reduced risk of various chronic diseases. Moderate wine consumption consumed with the meal is part of such a Mediterranean dietary pattern.
Eating patterns
As illustrated in the Med Diet pyramid (recommended by the Mediterranean Diet Foundation), the MD is characterised by a high intake of vegetables, legumes, fruits and nuts, minimally processed cereals, moderately high intake of fish, high intake of olive oil, low-to-moderate intake of dairy products, low intake of meats and a regular but moderate consumption of wine.
