Dr. Estruch reiterates the validity of the J-Curve
Scientific studies validate the existence of the so-called “J-Curve,” which illustrates a relationship between moderate wine consumption and a reduction in mortality risk. This correlation suggests that those who enjoy wine in moderation may have a higher life expectancy than those who abstain entirely or consume excessively.
This evidence was shared by Dr. Ramón Estruch, member of the Wine Information Council (and president of the Foundation for Wine and Nutrition Research (FIVIN)). Dr. Estruch, a leading authority on the Mediterranean Diet, emphasized that “this discovery is fundamental, as it reinforces the notion that wine can be part of a healthy lifestyle, provided it is consumed in moderation andxwith the meal. Moderation is key and must be accompanied by a balanced diet and regular physical activity.”
The reaffirmation of these findings follows the recent Lifestyle, Diet, Wine & Health International Congress, which brought together 30 international speakers from Europe, North America, South Africa, and Australia. Participating researchers and medical experts underscored the integral role of wine in the Mediterranean Diet, which is considered one of the best eating patterns globally because of its numerous health benefits.
