Conclusion of the “Lifestyle, diet, wine, and health Congress” presented during the Barcelona Wine Week

The conclusions of the “Lifestyle, diet, wine and health Congress” were presented at the international exhibition Barcelona Wine Week by Dr. Josep Masip, president of the scientific committee of FIVIN and a member of the of the “Lifestyle, diet, wine, and health congress” scientific committee.

A healthy lifestyle is fundamental in today’s society, and the one including the Mediterranean Diet, of which wine in moderation is an integral part, is believed to be the healthiest. It can extend beyond the mere way of eating to what is called ‘the Mediterranean lifestyle’, which highlights the role of moderation in many aspects of life, such as physical activity and social life, while still ensuring its compatibility with environmental sustainability and culinary pleasure.

Among the conclusions, the importance of different eating patterns, the synergy of different foods, and the role of polyphenols and the microbiota in health were also highlighted.

The first edition of the congress was held in Toledo on October 19 and 20 2023, co-organised by the Wine Information Council (WIC) and the Foundation for Wine Research (FIVIN).

The celebration of this congress led to the publication of a “Lifestyle Matters Declaration”, signed by more than fifty scientists, researchers, and doctors, which highlights, based on scientific evidence, the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced diet and lifestyle.
